Akira Horikawa "Soul Searchin'"
I was responsible for designing a Zine that compiles the drawings of New York-based artist Akira Horikawa.
Titled "Soul Searchin'," this series of drawings includes 49 pieces created between 2015 and 2017, each paired with the date it was made, serving as an homage to On Kawara's "Date Painting."
These works depict Akira's observations of the world, memory, and consciousness through daily habits and rhythms, combining cuteness and humor with a touch of irony.
The extremely simple binding, devoid of endpapers, a table of contents, or a colophon, emphasizes that these drawings are part of his everyday life and not something extraordinary.
Designed in a handy A5 size, the Zine aims to allow readers to casually flip through the pages as if they were reading his diary.
ニューヨークで活動するアーティストAkira Horikawa氏のドローイングをまとめたZineのデザインを担当しました。
「ソウルサーチン」と銘打たれた一連のドローイングは、2015年から2017年にかけて描かれた49枚の絵と、それが描かれた日付が一対になっており、河原温の「日付絵画」へのオマージュにもなっています。
見返し用紙や目次、奥付けなどを排除した極めてシンプルな装丁は、ドローイングが彼の日常であり、特別なことではないことを強調しています。
彼の日記を読むように、気軽にページをめくりながら楽しんでもらえることを意図して、手に取りやすいA5サイズにまとめました。
